Animal Protectors in Kharkiv Demand Humane Program

AZOU

Animal rights defenders in Kharkiv are opposing the continuation of the city program that involved the mass killing of stray dogs and cats.

The pet population control program operated in the city from 2013 to 2017. During this period, more than 60,000 animals were killed at the “Center for Animal Management” facility — more than 95% of animals that entered the institution.

The Housing Department proposed extending the program, but organizations led by Maryna Surkova, Vice President of the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine, demanded an alternative, more humane approach to solving the stray animal problem.

A detailed discussion of this issue took place on November 23, 2017, on the OTB television channel in the program “Topic of the Day.”
