Petition by Kharkiv Animal Protectors
On March 30, 2017, the petition by Kharkiv animal protection activists gathered the required number of signatures for consideration by the city mayor.
In the petition, animal protectors highlight numerous violations of legislation and citizens’ rights by the municipal enterprise.
Main demands of the petition:
Approve a new pet management program for 2017-2021, establishing humane biosterilization methods instead of killing animals.
Dismiss the director of the municipal enterprise “Center for Animal Management,” Yu.H. Shapovalova.
Organize a public discussion of the new director’s candidacy with the involvement of the public and animal protection organizations.
Establish a Supervisory Board at the enterprise with representatives of animal protection and environmental organizations for public oversight.
The petition authors hope that the city leadership will implement humane approaches instead of mass killing of animals.
