
Roundtable Held in Kharkiv
A roundtable between animal protectors and municipal workers was held in Kharkiv, where the activities of the municipal enterprise “Center for Animal Management” and proposals for its reform were discussed.
Participants debated a draft comprehensive program for pet population control through the humane method of mass sterilization.
The event was attended by city council deputies, representatives of public organizations led by AZOU Vice President Maryna Surkova, volunteers, and activists.
The director of the “Center for Animal Management” Yulia Shapovalova and the director of the Housing Department Roman Nekhoroshkov did not attend the meeting despite personal invitations.
Iryna Shevchenko from Lviv’s municipal enterprise “Lev” presented the positive experience of the humane program operating in Lviv. Participants emphasized the need to transition to biosterilization methods instead of killing animals.
Deputy Nataliya Kovalenko promised to submit a draft comprehensive program for humane stray animal population control for the period 2017-2021 to the city council for consideration.
