Working Meeting with Head of Starosaltivska Settlement Council

On June 7, 2017, a meeting was held between AZOU Vice President Maryna Surkova and “Animal Aid League” board member Iryna Podvoyska with the head of Starosaltivska settlement council in Kharkiv Oblast, Eduard Pavlovych Konovalov.

The meeting discussed humane methods of stray animal population control and possibilities for cooperation between the settlement council and volunteers.

Participants concluded that animal population control should only be carried out through the humane method of sterilization, which is the only effective and legal method.

Special attention was given to a comprehensive approach that includes:

• Sterilization and vaccination of stray animals using budget funds
• Subsidized sterilization of domestic cats and dogs
• Public education outreach
• Kindness lessons in schools

The parties emphasized that preventing the birth of unwanted offspring is the most important step toward reducing the stray animal population.
