Procedures for Temporary Animal Seizure by Police Approved

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, by Resolution No. 1010 dated September 8, 2023, approved two important documents.

The following were approved:

• Procedure for temporary seizure of animals in administrative offense cases
• Procedure for temporary seizure and maintenance of animals during criminal proceedings

These regulatory acts were supposed to be developed within three months after the entry into force of Law No. 1684-IX of July 15, 2021, but were approved with a two-year delay.

AZOU collaborated on the draft procedures together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Not all of the organization’s proposals were taken into account due to positions of some ministries and departments.

Despite the reservations, it is important that police officers have finally received an algorithm for temporary animal seizure. We thank the Ministry of Ecology for the efforts made during the preparation of the document.
