Tactical Combat Casualty Care Guidelines for Dogs
Throughout history, service dogs have lived alongside people and helped them in everything.
They are not only our companions — they perform guard duties, assist in demining, search for people under rubble, detect and neutralize sabotage groups, deliver medical supplies to the front line, help evacuate the wounded, and perform countless other functions. Additionally, animals on the front line are an important factor in reducing the psychological burden on our defenders.
The NGO “Petro and Mazepa” (part of the Association), together with animal advocates and veterinarians working in combat zones, launched the “Four-Legged Defender” project to help service dogs.
The project supports canine services, veterinary hospitals, and training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service, and other agencies.
The first practical step was the translation and publication of the “Canine/K9 Tactical Combat Casualty Guidelines” from the specialized K9 group of the US Army’s Tactical Combat Casualty Committee (cTCCC).
