Session at the Verkhovna Rada Committee
On May 24, 2017, the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine and the Kyiv Ecological-Cultural Center organized a session at the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy.
The meeting discussed V.E. Boreyko’s bill on amendments to Ukrainian legislation regarding the protection of flora and fauna. The session was attended by animal protection advocates and ecologists from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Uzhhorod, Lviv, and Odesa.
The proposed bill envisages several key measures:
- Prohibiting begging with animals and photographing with them in populated areas
- Restricting the keeping of large predators and dangerous animals in restaurants and hotels
- Prohibiting the use of animals as targets during shooting
- Clarifying rules for treating animals in agriculture, fisheries, and entertainment events
The bill also provides for a prohibition on main-use logging and forest restoration measures in protected areas.
